Qigong and Mixed Mindful Movement

Explore a conscious integration of Mindfulness Meditation principles with Qigong, Yoga postures, and Somatic Movement practices.

Meeting What's Here (Freeze Response) - 55 mins

This was our first live class after the US elections. Checking in with the students who were attending live, the consensus was a feeling of low energy, stuckness, exhaustion, shock, and numbness. So, rather than practicing a traditional heart meditation, the class theme shifted to “meeting what is here,” and we practiced gentle movements to help shift out of a nervous system Freeze response.

Clearing Energy for Presence: Mindful Movement - 46 mins

Calm your busy mind with these Qigong and Yoga movements, so you can feel more present. Once your nervous system is prepared to relax, we’ll do a guided meditation either seated or lying down. You might be surprised to find that you actually can meditate!

Self-Compassion: Mindful Movement + Meditation - 31 mins

This class is 50/50 mindful movement and guided meditation, on the theme of self-compassion. Try this when you’re feeling tense, stressed out, anxious, or low energy.

Walking Meditation Mixed with Yoga - 28 mins

This class weaves together Walking Meditation with a short yoga flow. It’s a slow-paced, mindful class that will leave your body feeling more open and your mind more centered.

Qigong Practice for Slowing Down - 17 mins

Join me (on my balcony!) for this class, using a few simple Qigong forms as an opportunity to slow down. This is a fun, shorter practice, where we play with the pace of movements to help the nervous system gradually settle into calm.

Receptive and Open: Mindful Movement Practice - 17 mins

Mindfulness is not just the ability to focus. There is also an open, curious, receptive quality to Mindfulness that allows us to observe whatever experience we’re having moment to moment. In this class, we’ll explore that receptive aspect of Mindfulness, as we move through a simple standing movement practice.

Feel Your Chi: Energizing Mindful Movement - 15 mins

With conscious breath and a little movement, we can activate the Chi (or Qi) and feel this life-force energy pulsing through us. These simple practices are done standing, and they will help you loosen up tension, focus your mind, and get your blood pumping a little.

Gratitude: Mindful Movement + Meditation - 38 mins

Gratitude practice is all about appreciating the goodness in our lives. This class is part movement, part meditation, invoking the sense of gladness and appreciation.

Qigong for the Neck & Shoulders - 27 mins

This is a shorter Mindful Movement practice designed to release upper body tension. The flowing Qigong forms in this class will also help you settle your mind and drop into presence.

Get Grounded: Mindful Movement + Meditation - 21 mins

This class is 50/50 mindful movement and guided meditation, on the theme of grounding. Bringing our attention down into the sensations of the legs and feet helps get us out of our heads, calms the thinking mind, and slows down reactivity. 

Coming to Center: Mindful Movement + Meditation - 40 mins

The movement part of this class is done standing (no getting up and down from the floor). It’s a blend of mindful yoga and qigong exercises, emphasizing the center of the body. With that excellent preparation, we’ll then do a guided Mindfulness Meditation practice either seated or lying down. 

Lower Body Warm-Up, Moon Salutations + Meditation - 49 mins

Prepare your body for sitting meditation with this fun and active yoga practice, including the Moon Salutation sequence. The practice ends with a 10-minute guided Breath Meditation, sitting with more ease and a stronger foundation after this lower body yoga session.

Slow & Steady Mindful Movement 5-Class Series

This is a 5-week series about slowing things down and cultivating steadiness of body and mind. It was originally recorded during the 2023 holiday season (Nov-Dec), but these principles are relevant any time of year!

These classes include a mix of Gentle Yoga, Somatics, and Qigong forms to explore the “slow and steady” theme. Through Mindful Movement and breath work, we can calm the nervous system, release tension, and gently interrupt the momentum of busy-ness.

Mindful Movement Mix 10-Class Series

This 10-class series was recorded live in Winter 2024, exploring a mix of Mindful Movement modalities. Each class in this series focuses on a different mindfulness skill, like embodiment, focus, intention, and curiosity.

And, we use a blend of movement styles to develop these mindful qualities, because different practices from Yoga, Somatics, and Qigong each offer something unique to our mind-body inquiry! For example, some postures encourage a stronger awareness of sensation, some build our strength, or develop our balance. Other movements help us channel excess mental energy and balance the nervous system. And, there are also movements that teach us to slow down and tune in to the subtleties of what we’re feeling.
