Yoga and Somatic Experiencing with Sarit Rogers

In this episode, I’m talking with Sarit Rogers about Yoga and Somatic Experiencing. We discuss how Sarit weaves yoga together with the nervous system-based therapy and resiliency practices of SE.

Episode Details:

Sarit Rogers talks about her own healing journey, and what she’s learned in yoga and Somatic Experiencing. We talk about why the nervous system is such a big piece of the puzzle and how it intertwines with the physical body, emotions, and our thoughts. You’ll also hear how Somatic Experiencing theory can help you learn to complete cycles of activation, rather than throwing kindling on the fire of reactivity.

Overlaps Between Yoga and Somatic Experiencing:

  • observing how the breath talks to the nervous system
  • recognizing that vocalization or chanting can affect the Vagus Nerve
  • cultivating awareness of body sensations (interoception)
  • teaching our logical brain to have a different relationship to the nervous system

We get into some tangible examples of working with the nervous system, both on the mat and off. It’s a fun and fascinating conversation, and Sarit’s dog and cat both make short appearances in this episode (bonus!). 🙂
