I’ve benefited so much from Mindful Movement and Meditation, and I’m gratefully inspired to share these practices with others.
Hi, I’m Addie deHilster, and here’s a bit about my path.
My hiking path, that is!
I absolutely love to be outside. It’s so refreshing to go out and savor the smell of trees, hear the sounds of birds and flowing streams, and to feel my feet on a cushy forest trail. I just put on my hiking boots and go, whether it’s winter, spring, summer, or fall.
But…if I don’t take care of myself consistently, my back hurts when I’m on the trails.
And, when I’m a million miles away in my mind, I miss the amazing scenery that’s right in front of me.
Fortunately, I’ve learned that Mindful Movement and Meditation helps me bring my whole self to the things I love (hiking and more).
It’s a rich and time-tested path, with many accessible practices for body and mind.
So, what do YOU want to do? (with more presence, less worry, and fewer aches and pains)
- play your guitar
- give that big work presentation
- grow your tomatoes
- run around with your kids (or grandkids, nieces, nephews, or furry friends)
- go on that road trip
- or finish knitting those holiday sweaters
Maybe you’re looking at making a big change (like a career transition or moving to a new state), or you’re just seeking a way to embrace BEING in your life exactly as it is.
Either way, I’m here to help you do that with simple movement practices that tune up the body and get you out of your head. You’ll learn mindfulness and meditation skills, too, so you can find clarity, calm, and less reactivity.
Meditation and mindful yoga have also been there for me during hard times and big shifts – like closing my brick-and-mortar yoga studio during the pandemic and moving 1,000 miles from Southern California to Washington State. This path has been there for me through losing family members to Alzheimer’s and cancer.
It continually teaches me how to stay grounded, keep breathing, be kind, and take the next step.
When I find something that works, I get really excited to share it – and that’s why I teach, and podcast, and write. I honestly think that the more people we have in our communities with steady nervous systems, spacious minds, and kind hearts…it LITERALLY changes the world for the better.
More about my experience and credentials
My name is Addie deHilster (she/her), and I’m a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher (IMTA CMT-P), a Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), and an experienced trainer of yoga and movement teachers (YACEP, Yoga Alliance Continuing Ed Provider).
I’m the founder of Moved to Meditate, which offers online Mindful Movement and Meditation instruction in a variety of formats – live group classes, a pre-recorded Class Library, one-to-one mentoring sessions, and a podcast.
I also owned and operated a community yoga studio (Spiral Path Yoga Center) in the La Crescenta neighborhood of Los Angeles for over five years. Our studio was known for its warm and inviting environment, robust teacher training program, and emphasis on adaptive yoga that made the practice more accessible to students who would not have thrived in most mainstream studios.
My own movement practice includes traditional yoga poses, gentle Somatic movement, Feldenkrais, strength training, QiGong, dancing, hiking, and more. I love exploring movement, and I draw from many influences when I teach. As a Certified Yoga Therapist, I have a lot of experience in tailoring movement practices to students with challenges such as chronic pain, arthritis, neurological issues, and insomnia. In private sessions, I often assist students in recovering from – and rediscovering movement after – life-altering surgeries, illnesses, accidents, diagnoses, and injuries.
I have been leading Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings and 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Certifications since 2013. I’m now offering an online Mindful Movement Teacher Training program.
A dedicated practitioner of Buddhist Insight Meditation (aka Vipassana or Mindfulness), I have accumulated over four months of silent retreat practice over the years. My classes highlight the mindfulness principles within movement practice, helping students find an accessible pathway to self-healing and the heart of what yoga and meditation have to offer.
