Movement That Unlocks Mindfulness Workshop

Live Online: Saturday, April 13th
10:00am-Noon (PDT)
$25 for workshop, recording + handout

This workshop has been postponed for the time being! Check back for a new date soon.

And, make sure you’re on the newsletter list if you’d like to receive announcements for this (and other) upcoming events.

If you’re interested in meditation, but find it challenging to sit in stillness and silence, this workshop is for you.

We will explore movement-based meditation techniques that can unlock mindfulness for those who haven’t had much luck with practices like: traditional sitting meditation, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, or even doing “beginner-friendly” guided practices on a meditation app.

Do any of these meditation roadblocks sound familiar?

• Difficulty finding a comfortable posture
• Not sure if you’re doing it right (or what’s it supposed to feel like)
• Feeling too restless and agitated
• Getting bored or distracted
• Getting overly focused on pain or challenging thoughts/feelings
• Feeling too “up in your head,” not connected to your body

In this workshop, we will talk about why movement often helps with these roadblocks, and also discuss basic mindfulness principles so you can understand the intentions behind the techniques we’re using. There will also be a “sampler platter” of very gentle mindful movements, calming breath practices, and creative meditations that don’t require complete stillness.

The practices you’ll experience will connect the dots between movement and meditation in 3 distinct ways:

• Discovering mindfulness through movement (without stillness)
• Using movement before stillness to prepare for meditation
• Incorporating subtle movements into the stillness of a seated meditation.

Bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment! You might just open the door to a world of mindfulness benefits and insights.

P.S. I highly encourage you to attend the workshop live (if you can), to best benefit from the interactive elements and supportive group energy. But, there will be a recording provided afterwards to all who register, along with a printable handout to remind you of the exercises you learned.

Weekend Mindful Movement and Meditation Retreat

I’ll be returning to LA for a special retreat weekend in Fall 2024!

Peggy Burt and I will team up to lead this special event, held near the location of our former (and beloved) Spiral Path Yoga Center. Join us for a weekend of quiet contemplation, nourishing movement, and community – all are welcome.

This in-person Mindful Movement & Meditation Retreat will be held at St. George’s Episcopal in La Canada, where we have a lovely indoor practice space and gardens to use for Walking Meditation. There will be opportunities for social connection, as well as deepening into silence, as we take this time away from everyday distractions.

We’ll gather on Friday night for a restful and heartful Yin Yoga class with Addie, followed by a community potluck. Return on Saturday morning with Peggy’s Yoga Basics class (optional and not silent), or choose to join us for the silent retreat program, which begins at 10:15.

The silent retreat will include instruction from both Addie and Peggy, and you’ll be guided through gentle Mindful Movement practices, Sitting and Walking Meditation, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. In the absence of speech and conversation, you may find your mind settles more easily into presence.

Friday
6:00-7:30pm – Yin Yoga with Addie
7:30-8:30pm – Community Potluck

Saturday
8:30am – Yoga Basics with Peggy (optional)
10:15am – 3:30pm – Silent Retreat

More details for this year’s retreat will be shared in the coming months, but the cost for the weekend will be approximately $108. (Priority will be given to those who wish to attend the full weekend event, but some last-minute spots may be opened for Friday-only and Saturday-only attendance.)
